TURMERIC HEALS WOUNDS AND SPRAINS

Curcuma domestica Val.



Turmeric or “haldi” is a perennial plant with irregular shaped tubers. The underground stem or rhizome produces lanceolate, long, smooth, uniform green leaves. The floral bracts are pale green, ovate, sometimes pink. The flowers are pale yellow and is the length of the bracts. It has a peculiar odour and is slightly bitter and acidic. It is cultivated for the rhizome and also for ornamental purposes.

Medicinal use:
  • To expel the gases, flatulence and griping pains from the stomach and bowels. 
  • Alters the process of nutrition and excretion and restores the normal functioning of the body. 
  • Bronchitis, diarrhea, intermittent fever, abnormal accumulation of liquid in cellular tissue, jaundice and liver problems. 
  • Treatment of urinary diseases. 
  • Heals wounds and sprains. 
  • Treatment for rheumatism and pain of the facial nerves. 
How to use: 
  • The rhizome of this plan is prepared as a paste, powder, lotion or oil and used to relieve flatulence and to restore normal functions of the body. 
  • The decoction of the drive rhizome is used in bronchitis, diarrhea, intermittent fever, abnormal accumulation of liquid in cellular tissue, jaundice, liver and urinary disorders. 
  • The paste applied externally is used for sprains and wounds. 
  • The ointment is used for rheumatism and pain of the facial nerves. 
Parts used:
The underground stem called rhizome.

Dose:

Internally, use 2 to 5 grams for 1 litre of water by decoction. Use 4 to 5 cups a day. Externally, as required.
