MEDICINAL USE OF INDIAN SARSAPARILLA: BEST CURE FOR DIARRHOEA


HEMIDESMUS INDICUS R. BR.

​This is a perennial prostrate or twinning plant. Stems are slender, striate and thickened and the nodes. Leaves are variable from elliptic-oblong to linear-lanceolate and are 5 to 10 cm long. Flowers are crowded in stalkless clusters. The corolla which is 5 to 6 mm long is greenish outside and purple inside. The seeds which are 6 to 8 mm long are flattened and silvery white.


Medicinal use:
  • To prevent or reduce fever, check rheumatism and urinary disease.
  • To cure diarrhoea.
  • Leprosy, leukoderma, itching, skin diseases, loss of appetite, asthma, bronchitis, disease of the blood, leucorrhoea, piles, and epileptic fits in children.
  • Relieves inflammation of the alimentary tract.
  • The inflamed eyes.


How to use:
  • The decoction of the root is administered to take care of the first 4 types of ailments given under Medicinal use.
  • The latex of the plant administered into the eye check inflammation.
