Lagerstroemia is truly “Pride of India” as this handsome tree with its clusters of numerous magenta flowers is also called. It unfailingly catches the eye of young and old alike who cannot but pause for a moment to admire the majesty and glory of God’s perfect creation. The tree grows to the height of about 10 meters and puts out several branches with regular entire oval leaves. The fruit is a large capsule and the seeds are pale brown in color.

Medicinal use:

• Recommended for diabetics.
• Reduces or eliminates fever.
• Prevent diarrhea.
• Curse small ulcers in the mouth.
• As a purgative. 

How to use:

• The decoction of the bark and the leaves is used to promote the flow of the urine.
• The same decoction is also recommended for diabetics.
• The bark powder in infusion is used to reduce or eliminate fever and prevent diarrhea.
• The fruit is used to cure small ulcer in the mouth.
• The bark, leaves and flowers are given a purgative which promotes the evacuation of the bowels like laxative.
